Utility-scale battery is unveiled by Canadian Solar.

A patented energy storage battery technology for utility-scale applications will be introduced by CSI Energy Storage, a Canadian Solar subsidiary.

The lithium iron phosphate battery container from the company, known as SolBank, has a 2,800kWh useful energy capacity.

It is also built with active balancing battery management system (BMS) technology, liquid cooling, and humidity control.

The SolBank is being produced by CSI Energy Storage at its Jiangsu Province, China, workshops. By the end of 2023, the annual production capacity for battery manufacturing is predicted to increase to 10GWh from the present 2.5GWh.

Dr Shawn Qu, Chairman and CEO of Canadian Solar, commented “We are delighted to launch our proprietary battery storage product, the SolBank, which is one of the best in the market in terms of product safety and cost competitiveness.”

“Our manufacturing capacity in battery storage will spur the continued growth of our battery storage solutions business, which will in turn enhance the synergies with our battery storage project development business.”

“Solar plus battery storage will be one of the key solutions to combat climate change. We look forward to working together with our existing and new partners and contribute to global decarbonisation efforts.”
