The Fenwick Solar project is gearing up for its next phase of consultation

Boom Power is initiating a second round of consultation regarding its plans to establish a solar farm in Fenwick, Doncaster. This project aims to produce eco-friendly electricity using photovoltaic panels situated east of Fenwick, near Askern, in the northern part of the City of Doncaster borough.

With a track record of successfully implementing renewable energy initiatives throughout the UK, Boom Power is set to add the Fenwick project to its roster of endeavors, which includes ventures in East Yorkshire, Cleve Hill in Kent, and the recently approved Kenley Solar Farm in Hull.

Expected to power around 75,000 households with clean energy, this scheme aligns with the imperative to address energy security concerns and supports the UK’s net zero objectives, as well as Doncaster City Council’s commitment to combatting climate change and promoting renewable energy sources.

The ongoing consultation, open until May 31, presents an opportunity for local residents and stakeholders to gain insight into the project and offer feedback. Boom Power will carefully consider all comments received before proceeding with a development consent application.

Given its designation as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP), Fenwick Solar Farm necessitates approval from both the Planning Inspectorate and the Secretary of State for Climate Change and Net Zero before construction can commence. Boom Power anticipates submitting a Development Consent Order later in 2024.

Founder and Director of Boom Power, Mark Hogan, said “We would like to thank all those who took part in our consultation last year. The feedback we received, along with further technical work, has helped us to develop our proposals further.”

“Solar energy will play a critical role in this journey, and Fenwick will be at the forefront of that drive. As a business, we are committed to working closely with local stakeholders to make sure that local people and community groups in Fenwick are able to help shape our plans. We take our role as a neighbour to the people of Fenwick seriously, and want to ensure this project leaves a positive, long-term local legacy.”
