The expansion of Nordex is fuelled by the growth of its onshore operations in Germany

The Nordex Group reported a successful development in the German market in 2023, citing substantial growth in order intake and positive outcomes from onshore wind auction rounds, as mentioned by the turbine manufacturer. The company acknowledged the government’s efforts to accelerate onshore wind expansion, emphasizing that these measures are now showing a positive impact, and the Nordex Group possesses the technology to contribute significantly to the region’s energy transition.

In 2023, the group experienced a robust 36% increase in order intake in Germany, rising from approximately 1.1GW in 2022 (195 turbines) to nearly 1.5GW (262 units). Notably, the N149/5.X and the N163/6.X emerged as the most sought-after turbine models, securing new business orders for the company.

Participating in the Federal Network Agency’s four tender rounds for onshore wind in 2023, Nordex successfully secured projects totaling over 1.8GW (compared to 763MW in 2022). On an annual basis, the company’s share of megawatts awarded in the 2023 tenders reached 30%, with a particularly strong performance in the last tender round, boasting a 38% share.

The substantial market share obtained through these auctions provides a solid foundation for the Nordex Group to continuously expand its role as a developer and supplier of highly efficient wind turbines in one of the world’s most crucial wind markets. The German government aims to achieve a minimum of 80% of gross electricity consumption from renewable energies by 2030, equivalent to approximately 115GW in onshore wind installations, compared to the current capacity of around 61GW
