Impax Asset Management has sold Sonnedix a solar power facility in Herencia, Ciudad Real.
In its first year of operation, Fraile, a 36MWp plant that recently reached its commercial operating date, is anticipated to produce 78GWh of clean electricity.
This prevents the annual emission of nearly 12,000 tonnes of CO2 and is the equivalent of powering over 23,000 households.
Canadian Solar modules, PV Hardware trackers, and JEMA inverters are used to power the facility. For the first two years, ELMYA will function as both the operations and maintenance and the designated EPC contractor.
PWC handled the sales management. Gomez-Acebo & Pombo provided advice to Impax, while Ashurst provided advice to Sonnedix.
In 2022, Sonnedix will make four acquisitions in Spain, where it currently oversees 181 solar projects with a combined capacity of up to 1GW and an operational capacity of nearly 600MW.
Axel Thiemann, CEO of Sonnedix, said “I am excited to see the growth of our footprint in Spain, where we have been present since our founding in 2009.”
“Our team has done an exceptional job toward working together to optimise our portfolio as we evolve as key players in the Energy Transition in Europe.”
Head of the PE/Infrastructure Transaction Team at Impax, Carsten Johansen, said “Impax is proud to be an established investor in the Spanish renewables market. We are pleased to bring these 36MWp into operation, and happy to be partnering again with Sonnedix.”
