RWE and Siemens Gamesa have entered into a framework agreement for the supply of turbines for 1GW of onshore wind farms across Europe until 2027.
This agreement will establish Siemens Gamesa as a major component supplier for RWE’s project pipeline.
The turbines of choice for RWE will primarily be the flexible nominal output 6.6MW to 7MW Siemens Gamesa 5.X model, including in Germany, RWE’s home market.
The Siemens Gamesa 4.X model will also be utilized in several projects under the agreement.
Additionally, RWE will sign a service contract for the wind turbines, which will enable RWE to carry out maintenance and inspections on its own, gradually.
Katja Wünschel, Chief executive onshore wind and solar Europe & Australia RWE Renewables, said “Europe needs more wind power. And fast. We are making our contribution and resolutely driving forward the energy transition.”
“With this contract, RWE has secured fixed delivery dates and a structured pricing model for one giga volume.”
“This means that the supply chain for important large-scale components of new onshore wind farms in Europe is already in place.”
Richard Luijendijk, Onshore chief executive of Siemens Gamesa, added “For us at Siemens Gamesa, this agreement is important not only because of its magnitude, but also because we continue to deepen our cooperation with RWE, one of our most important customers.
“With this contract, we can guarantee the timely and cost-effective availability of our best-in-class technology, the Siemens Gamesa 5.X onshore platform.”
“We would like to thank RWE for their trust and look forward to continuing our leading role in the energy transition and working together to secure Europe’s energy supply.”
