Renewco Power and Locogen granted approval for Scottish solar-battery project

Renewco Power and Locogen have obtained approval for a solar and battery initiative in Fife, Scotland. The Glenniston solar project, situated in Lochgelly, is set to generate 39MW of power with an investment of £50 million.

Following consultations and design adjustments, the project will prioritize biodiversity enhancements such as new hedgerow planting, grass mix restoration, and the creation of wildflower meadows to support local pollinators. Moreover, it will allocate an annual community benefit fund of £23,400 and contribute business rates to benefit the broader Fife community.

Senior Developer at Renewco, Clara Thompson, said “This is a huge milestone for the project and we are delighted Fife Council has recognised the many environmental, social and economic benefits of solar energy.”

“We look forward to the project making a substantial contribution to the UK’s green energy transition over the coming years.”

Head of Developments at Locogen, Stuart Hamilton, added “We are delighted to have received planning approval for the Glenniston solar farm.”

“Solar energy is one of the lowest cost and quickly deployable forms of renewable energy. We look forward to continuing with the next phases of the project and further engagement with the local community.”

Since its inception in 2021, Renewco has established a pipeline of 5GW capacity, comprising 50 projects spanning solar, wind, battery, and green hydrogen across the UK, Spain, Italy, and the US. A significant portion of these projects is progressing toward the construction phase within the next three years.
