Polish onshore market entry by Renewable Power Capital

In order to establish a pipeline of up to 1 GW of onshore wind projects across the nation, Renewable Power Capital (RPC) and Tundra Advisory (Tundra) have announced their partnership to enter the Polish onshore wind industry.

Over 500MW of possible sites have already been identified by the partners, and the transaction is subject to Polish regulatory approval.

For more than 15 years, Tundra has created sustainable energy in Poland.

It is owned by Taiga Mistral, a renowned Madrid-based investment management company with a strong commitment to sustainability.

According to the company, Renewable Power Capital will offer a very flexible source of long-term investment to maximise value and growth.

One of Europe’s fastest-growing onshore wind markets has the potential to be Poland.

The Polish government is now projecting a capacity increase from 2020 levels to roughly 25 GW of renewable electricity output by 2030.

In addition, aggressive renewable target updates are anticipated for Poland’s energy policy until 2040.

Poland now relies on coal for more than two thirds of its energy production, setting it apart from other gas-heavy European networks and providing it a significant decarbonization potential.

The acquisition, which is RPC’s first in the CEE region, expands RPC’s portfolio of wind projects, which are situated in Finland and Sweden, as well as its 3GW solar pipeline and 1GW battery storage project.

Mariano Berges, Chief commercial and technical officer at RPC, said: “The European energy market is undergoing significant changes and renewables will play an increasingly important role.

“Renewable Power Capital aims to be part of the solution.

“Poland has the potential to be one of Europe’s largest onshore wind markets, and we are pleased to be working with the very experienced team at Tundra to unlock this.”

Jaime Blas , CEO of Tundra and Taiga, said: “We are pleased to enter into a strong strategic partnership with an international and reputable investor such as RPC.

“The joint venture will maximise the capabilities of both parties, enabling us to achieve our ambition to become a leading developer of wind energy in Poland.”
