Octopus Invests In German Based Lintas

Octopus Energy’s arm dedicated to energy generation has made an investment in Lintas Green Energy, a developer focused on onshore wind and solar projects based in Germany. In this deal, Octopus’ Sky fund (ORI SCSp) has acquired a 50% stake in Lintas Green Energy, which is headquartered in Oldenburg and is recognized for its extensive experience and rapid growth in the green energy sector.

The objective of this investment is to accelerate Lintas Green Energy’s expansion efforts throughout Germany, particularly in the development of new wind and solar farms. The aim is to achieve a capacity of 1 gigawatt by 2030, sufficient to power approximately 370,000 German households with clean energy.

Lintas has already successfully completed green energy initiatives, such as those in Lower Saxony, where the state met all its electricity needs through renewable sources for the first time last year. Lintas Green Energy presently has over 20 projects in various stages of development across multiple states, including Hesse, Bavaria, and Saxony-Anhalt.

With the financial backing from Octopus, the company intends to further expand its reach and establish partnerships for energy supply, aiding energy-intensive industries in reducing their carbon footprint. This announcement coincides with Octopus’ intensified focus on renewable energy initiatives in Germany, with plans to invest over €1 billion in the country’s clean energy infrastructure by 2027.

Since entering the German renewables market in June 2022, Octopus has rapidly advanced its projects. This latest investment marks Octopus’ eighth venture in the German market, following its recent acquisition of the Schiebsdorf solar farm, which is the largest solar farm in its portfolio.

Co-head of Octopus Energy Generation’s fund management business, Alex Brierley,  said “Germany has been a leader of the global ‘Energiewende’ since the 80s.”

“We’re proud to be able to help the country speed up this transition by backing green projects and developers that are driving a cleaner, cheaper future.”

“This latest deal with Lintas Green Energy is our 8th renewables deal in Germany and our first investment in a company creating new green power – and it won’t be our last.”
