Thomas Michel, who has extensive experience in the wind sector, has been appointed as the Chief Operating Officer for RWE’s offshore wind business, effective from September 1, 2023.
With almost 15 years of experience in the industry, Michel has primarily focused on ensuring the safe operation of offshore wind assets and overseeing the commissioning of new wind farms.
During his career, Michel has been involved in significant projects, including RWE’s offshore wind farms such as Kaskasi off the coast of Heligoland and Triton Knoll.
His responsibilities have encompassed the operation and maintenance of RWE’s entire offshore wind fleet, which includes 19 assets operating in five countries, with a combined installed capacity of 6.2GW. RWE holds a 3.3GW share in these projects.
The creation of a new board division for RWE’s offshore wind business reflects the company’s recognition of the increasing number of offshore wind farms it operates.
This move aims to enhance management focus on the construction, operation, engineering, and health, safety, security, and environment aspects of these large projects.
With Thomas Michel taking on this role as COO, RWE aims to strengthen its position in the offshore wind sector and ensure the successful execution of its upcoming projects.
Markus Krebber, RWE chief executive said “I’m delighted that Thomas Michel, a very experienced manager from our own ranks, will be taking on the position of COO Offshore Wind.
“For many years, Thomas and his operations team have been ensuring the reliable operation of our offshore fleet, ensuring that millions of households in Europe are supplied with green electricity from offshore wind farms.
“I look forward to continuing to work with him in his new role.”
