Korkia collaborates with Econous to establish 600 megawatts of solar power in Romania

Finnish renewable energy investor Korkia has entered into a partnership with Balkans-based renewable energy developer Econous Green Energy. Their collaboration aims to develop 600 megawatts of solar projects in Romania, as stated in a joint announcement on Monday.

According to the announcement, they anticipate that the initial projects will be licensed and prepared for construction by 2025, although no further details were provided.

Korkia and Econous, with offices in Greece and Romania, seem attracted by Romania’s potential and aspirations to become a leading force in renewable energy in the region. The partners also emphasized Romania’s advantageous conditions for solar power, including high levels of sunlight exposure, ample land availability, and a significant amount of baseload hydropower to complement intermittent renewable sources.

Investment Director at Korkia, Peter Goitanich, said “Romania’s renewable energy development sector is now attracting an increasing number of international investors.”

“The country is in a very good position to increase its capacity, and the government has set ambitious growth targets. Romania is on track to become a renewable energy hub in Southeast Europe.”

CEO of Econous Green Energy, Christos Lialios, added “This partnership not only reaffirms our commitment to the transition to a sustainable energy future, but also demonstrates our ability to innovate and act in a way that brings significant benefits to the environment and our communities.”

“We are proud to be part of an initiative that will bring benefits to Romania and all of Europe.”
