Kallista Energy and Lhyfe have entered into an agreement to harness the output of a wind farm located in Brachy, Seine-Maritime, France, for the purpose of generating electricity to support the production of environmentally friendly hydrogen. The Brachy wind park, currently equipped with five wind turbines and almost 17 years old, is owned and operated by Kallista Energy.
Their plan is to upgrade it with the latest-generation turbines, which will provide power to Lhyfe through a 15-year corporate Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). This upgraded wind park will be capable of generating 70% more electricity while maintaining the same number of wind turbines.
Expected to be operational by the summer of 2024, the rejuvenated Brachy wind park will feature five Vestas V126 wind turbines with a combined capacity of 15MW. The entire energy output from this wind park will be directed towards powering Lhyfe’s green and sustainable hydrogen production facilities, thereby contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions in the transportation sector.
Lhyfe established a production facility in Pays de la Loire in 2021 and plans to commission two additional units in Brittany and Occitanie by the end of the year, enabling a maximum daily production capacity of 4 tonnes of green and renewable hydrogen.
Furthermore, they have already announced future projects in new regions, including the Central Loire Valley and eastern France.
This Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) not only strengthens Lhyfe’s network of renewable electricity suppliers but also secures a consistent, long-term supply of green electricity for the expansion of their upcoming facilities. This arrangement also guarantees competitive pricing for renewable hydrogen in the foreseeable future.
CEO and Founder of Lhyfe, Matthieu Guesné, said “This agreement with Kallista Energy strengthens our network of green energy supplier partners and, in practical terms, allows us to have an additional 46GWh per year to power our future production sites”
“It is thanks to the trust of players such as Kallista Energy that the green and renewable hydrogen sector is ramping up, to rapidly and massively decarbonise industry and mobility.”
