Juan Luis Cantón appointed country head by Lightsource BP

Juan Luis Cantón has been appointed as the new country head for Lightsource BP in Spain, succeeding Fernando Roger.

Roger had set up Lightsource BP’s Spanish operations and led the team from start-up to establishing a gigawatt-scale pipeline.

He will now take up a regional role as director of Southern Europe. Cantón has more than 20 years of experience in the renewables industry and will be responsible for driving Lightsource BP’s growth ambitions in Spain.

The company recently announced the progress of 19 solar projects across Spain, which will result in local investment of about €1.2bn.

Kareen Boutonnat, Chief executive of EMEA & APAC for Lightsource bp, said “We’re really excited to welcome Juan Luis Cantón to the team.”

“He brings with him significant development experience that will be valuable as we continue to drive the momentum of Lightsource BP’s growth across Spain.”

“I would also like to thank Fernando Roger for his incredible efforts and dedication in growing our business in Spain and we wish him all the success in his new role.”

Roger added “The appointment of Juan Luis Cantón demonstrates how much we have grown and evolved over these last years both in terms of team size and results.”

“This role gives Juan Luis a great opportunity to drive our success forward, establishing Lightsource bp as a clear leader across the Spanish energy market.”

Canton said “I appreciate the trust Lightsource BP has placed in me, I am very excited to be able to contribute to the expansion of the company in Spain, and at the same time to collaborate with a team of professionals who appreciate for the work they have done so far and for the motivation they show in continuing to accelerate the decarbonisation of our planet.”

Lightsource BP has expanded its presence in the Spanish market, having built and connected 400MW of solar energy in the past two years.

The company’s Spanish team is currently developing several projects, with a total capacity of 3GW. Recently, 1620MW of these projects received environmental authorization, and they are expected to be operational by 2025.
