Greek wind farm commissioned by Iberdrola

Iberdrola has initiated operations at the Askio 2 wind farm, boasting a capacity of 38MW, in Greece. Situated in the West Macedonia region, spanning the provinces of Kozani and Eordaia, this facility complements the fully operational 50.4MW Askio 3 project, which was finalized in 2022.

The collective investment in both projects neared €100 million. Askio 2 is composed of nine Vestas V150 wind turbines, each capable of generating 4.2MW, with a hub height of 105 meters and a rotor diameter of 150 meters. These two Askio projects are interconnected to the same grid point.

Concurrently, Iberdrola has also commissioned the 18MW Rokani wind farm situated in the central Greek region of Viotia. This facility is equipped with three Vestas V162 turbines, each with a unit capacity of 6MW and a hub height of 205 meters.

With the completion of these projects, Iberdrola has achieved an operational renewable energy capacity of 421MW in Greece. Both Askio projects have contributed financially to local communities, investing €2.2 million in new infrastructure to support local businesses.

Throughout the construction and operational phases of these wind farms, Iberdrola has generated 282 direct and indirect jobs, providing support to local supply chains.

Notably, the Askio projects have been constructed in a mountainous area at an elevation of 1500 meters above sea level. To navigate the narrow and steep roads, blade lifter technology was employed, involving a specialized trailer that can rotate and tilt the blades vertically during transport.

This innovation allowed for the components to be transported along existing narrow roads, eliminating the need for additional construction work.
