ESB and Red Rock Power have entered into capacity reservation agreements with Chinese fabricators Dajin Offshore and Guangzhou Wenchong for the production of XXL monopile foundations intended for the 1100MW Inch Cape wind farm located off the eastern coast of Scotland.
Commencing in late 2024, the fabrication of these monopiles is set to be completed with delivery to the designated bases by late 2025.
These agreements play a crucial role in securing the supply, fabrication, and timely delivery of foundations for the wind farm, marking a significant step forward in its overall construction progress, according to the developers. The XXL monopiles are specifically designed to accommodate the latest generation of offshore turbines.
Each structure at Inch Cape will boast a maximum outer diameter of 11.5 meters, a maximum length of 110 meters, and a weight of up to 2700 tonnes. These foundations are engineered to support Vestas 15MW turbines, which have already been chosen as the preferred hardware for the wind farm.
Situated in the North Sea, approximately 15km from the east coast of Angus in Scotland, the Inch Cape project continues to advance towards its completion.
