Equinor and Polenergia’s joint venture companies, which are spearheading the development of the 1440MW Baltyk 2 and Baltyk 3 offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea, have entered into a capacity reservation and early works agreement with the consortium of Smulders Projects Belgium NV and Sif Netherlands BV. This agreement covers the production of 100 transition pieces for both projects.

These sites comprise two distinct projects, each with a planned installed capacity of 720MW, totaling 1.4GW. The offshore wind farms are situated within the Polish exclusive economic zone of the Baltic Sea and are regulated by Polish laws. Baltyk 2 is located about 37km off the Polish coast, while Baltyk 3 is 22km offshore.

The consortium of Smulders and Sif is tasked with the fabrication of the transition pieces, which includes shop design, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning. Sif will handle the manufacturing of roughly 30k tons of primary steel tubulars, including flanges, at their Roermond facility in the Netherlands.

Smulders will manage the secondary steel scope, coating, electrical system, and testing and commissioning, with the secondary steel work being done at their Polish facilities. The final assembly will take place at their yard in Hoboken, Belgium.
