Digital Power Optimization (DPO), a developer and operator of data centres, has entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with a multinational renewable energy producer for up to 100MW of power from their wind assets in Texas. The seller owns significant renewable energy assets, including multiple wind farms exceeding 150MW in Texas.
In this new PPA, DPO and the seller anticipate data centre deployments to scale up to a total capacity of 100MW, spanning across as many as six of the seller’s wind assets in Texas. What sets DPO apart is that, unlike traditional computing facilities using virtual PPAs or offsets for clean power procurement, its data centres will directly draw power from the renewable wind generation facilities, operating behind the meter.
Funding for the initial phase of construction at the first project site has been secured, and the commencement of data centre operations is projected for 2024. The remaining sites are expected to go live over the subsequent 12-18 months.
Andrew Webber, DPO’s CEO, said “We’re extremely pleased to have this PPA finalised and the project now officially underway. We have been running a pilot on-site for this power producer for over a year now and have developed an outstanding partnership with them.”
“Together, we crafted a custom and innovative PPA structure which creates zero-cost economic upside for the Seller while bringing to life some of the cleanest and most sustainable computing facilities on Earth for DPO’s investors and data centre tenants.”
