BayWa renewable’s partners with SUSI Partners over south-east Asia solar opportunities

BayWa’s renewable energy division has joined forces with SUSI Partners to facilitate the provision of solar power in South-East Asia.

Both parties have inked a framework agreement that will direct funding from SUSI Partner’s Asia Energy Transition Fund (SAETF), which focuses on Southeast Asia, towards the execution of larger rooftop photovoltaic (PV) projects contracted with major commercial and industrial enterprises.

The primary target markets encompass Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia. This collaboration focuses on the comprehensive development, construction, and operation of PV projects with capacities of up to 20MW, initiated through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with established corporations.

BayWa r.e. will oversee project development, execution, client relations, and asset management, while SUSI Partners, through its fund, will supply the necessary investment and assume full project ownership upon finalization of the PPAs.

According to a recent study conducted by BayWa r.e. on the energy outlook in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, nearly half of corporate leaders have identified affordable and clean energy as a top sustainability objective. Similarly, almost half of companies in APAC aim to increase their utilization of renewable energy by more than 40%.

The injection of funds will support the expansion and advancement of the sustainability landscape in the region, enabling companies to access reliable and high-quality renewable energy options. This aligns with the shared goal of BayWa r.e. and SUSI Partners to promote a sustainable society.

BayWa r.e.’s Managing Director Malaysia, Niranpal Singh, said “We look forward to expanding our services by being part of the SUSI Asia Energy Transition Fund, which aims to advance the energy transition in Southeast Asia’s emerging markets.”

“We hope that due to this partnership, companies will be able to adopt PPAs and rooftop installations more quickly and efficiently.”

“We’ve already identified an initial portfolio of over 20MW, and BayWa r.e. will help with developing, constructing, and operating these top-tier solar energy solutions.”
