Acciona Energia has successfully concluded the construction of its inaugural hybrid renewable energy facility, incorporating a solar plant at the operational site of its Escepar wind farm in Spain. Situated in the municipalities of Villalba del Rey and Tinajas (Cuenca), the hybrid park integrates a 36MW wind component and a 29MW solar component.
During its construction peak, the solar farm generated around 130 job opportunities. The project aligns with Acciona Energia’s Social Impact Management (GIS) program, designed to make a positive contribution to local communities by reinvesting a portion of its annual income in the respective areas.
In Villalba del Rey, the company is actively involved in a program to rejuvenate the Santos Sebastián e Isidro Cooperative, a key economic entity in the municipality, and is funding various initiatives to enhance its performance. Moreover, Acciona Energia has initiated diverse activities in the Association of Retirees and Pensioners of Tinajas and is supporting the enhancement of its facilities.
Escepar marks the company’s inaugural venture into hybrid renewables, where multiple renewable energy technologies share a common connection point, optimizing grid utilization.
This strategic combination of wind and solar technologies diminishes reliance on environmental conditions, ensuring a more consistent and stable renewable energy production. Furthermore, the shared infrastructure approach avoids the need for constructing new power lines, substations, facilities, and roads, thereby mitigating the environmental impact compared to two independent projects.
