A tender for the development of a 1GW offshore wind farm off the Normandy coast has been won by EDF Renewables and Maple Power.
Blade recycling, contributions to a fund for the protection of biodiversity, the percentage of SMEs used in construction and operation, and the use of participatory investment were among the criteria used to grade bidders’ bids in the Centre Manche 1 site competitive procurement.
The project is anticipated to be completed in 2031.
This development by EDF Renewables and Maple Power, brings the total capacity of French offshore wind projects under development to 4GW.
The government argues that the steps outlined by Agnès Pannier-Runacher, Minister for Energy Transition, will hasten the development of offshore wind power off the coast of France in addition to the notification of the tender.
On the website of the Commission de régulation de l’énergie (CRE), the specification for a 250MW floating offshore wind project in southern Brittany (AO5) was published in April.
One of the first floating wind installations in the world to be selected through commercial tendering will be at this location.
Applicants will have the opportunity to craft their bids, which will subsequently be judged according to a panel of economic, social, and environmental factors.
This project’s allocation is anticipated by the end of 2023.
The selection of contenders who will take part in the competitive discussion for the two offshore wind farms off the Ile d’Oléron (AO7) and Normandy is the other measurement (AO8).
These two projects will be allocated in the start of 2024, with commissioning taking place in 2032.
AO7 (1GW) candidates are: Ocean Winds, RWE, Iberdrola, Oceole, Eni Plenitude, Corio-Qair JV, EDF Renwables-Maple Power JV, Skyborn-Cobra JV and TotalEnergies and Jera JV.
AO8 (500MW) candidates are: Ocean Winds, Eni Plenitude, Iberdrola, a Vattenfall, Skyborn and Banque de Territoires alliance, EDF Renewables-Maple Power JV, TotalEnergies-RWE JV and Corio-Qair JV.
A nationwide consultation on accelerating competitive tendering processes and altering public support models for offshore wind plants was also launched by Pannier-Runacher.
